The sins of the past administration

Researches have shown that most persons are quick to infer a conclusion more with a deductive mindset to an inductive application. A further survey also indicates that three out of every five persons would rather prefer a report based on sentiments to that which is of commonsense and logic.

From the above, one cannot but pitch certain Nigerians in either of those categories going by the inherent trend which we so find ourselves both as a nation and also as an entity. From the analysis so far by many Nigerians, it is a total clarity that many are no doubt absolutely oblivious of certain fact and figures but will rather base their argument either on a myopic strata or on a template based on some ethno political scale. To some, it's just about making their voices heard, to others, it's means been in line with majority while to some more, it's about gaining cheap publicity as very few takes it as an analytical platform where brainstorming, wisdom, calculation and logic are required.

Recently, the Buhari-led administration due to the inherent economic crisis and the absolutely noose diving of the oil prices at the global markets, decided to remove subsidy from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) so to save more and prevent unnecessary cost for a subsidy budgeting which by virtues of common sense and logic benefits more of the political cum elitist class to the ordinary Nigerians in the streets. The idea as argued is meant not only to save cost but also to seriously clampdown on some of those "cabals" who takes advantage of government subsidizing PMS, diverts this products to neighboring Chad, Niger, Benin-Republic and some other places, thereby making this product's in scarce supply artificially which in turn makes it difficult and expensive to get despite the huge amount of millions allocated as subsidy.

While some has accused the presidency of playing the script of been an epic hypocrite, others have labelled him as been irresponsible to the plight and sufferings of Nigerians who by virtues of their votes made him rose to becoming the number one citizen in the land. In as much as the later argument looks emotional, it's seems to be in absolute contraction with the reasons why the presidency's decides to remove subsidy from PMS at a cursory glance. However, for those who have accused the presidency of epic hypocrisy, their facts and arguments can only be sum up in two words "Sentiments and Ignorance".

They have argued that in 2012, during the administration of former president GoodLuck Ebele Jonathan, this same crop of persons who are now in support of subsidy removal protested heavily against the removal of subsidy from PMS when president Goodluck Jonathan tries to toll that same path of saving cost. Well, the rest is history as not even a five year old as at then didn't know what the term OCCUPYNIGERIA stands for during that time most especially if such kid find their birth of origin somewhere around freedom park.

Sound as that may look at a second thought, an absolute amount of commonsense application might just make such argument not only dumb but also an idea meant only for myopic minders most especially for those who barely know what cluelessness is. Well, since no condition is permanent and since no one individual is born daft, i think understanding could be better gained if one makes it as a point of determination to study this analysis herein.

However, before i say ado, let me start by alerting my readers that i am neither a card carrier of any political platform nor am i part of the political class who by virtues of their position feels no pain. I still remain a loyal servant of the street university where hustling and bustling remains a core course to pass if one must desire success. With that assumed as a clarity, the game is as good as start already.

Firstly, it will not be out of place if one conclude apparently from the very obvious that the previous administration was not only fraught with fraud but was largely an administration where corruption was elevated so high that not even mount Olympian could contest in terms of height and status. Nigerians saw an administration that not only celebrated criminals to the highest of all heavens, but also made the culture of impunity most grandstanding even more than a Goliath. In fact, it became no news if a public officer steals, loot or even misappropriate public fund as that became a tight contest among those in the corridors of powers where everybody wants to be regarded as the highest thief in the land knowing fully well that nothing will happen to them at the tail end, worst scenario, they share the loot if the situation gets messier. *fact undisputed*

Now, it is on record that we had an administration then with not only a booming economic flux, but was greeted with an abundant grace where our crude oil pricing at the world global market was not only sold above $100per barrel but was also enjoying an economic growth rate of 6% on the average ( All thanks to Foreign Direct Investment FDI). This by analysis means that in a mono economy like ours, such boom rate will not increase our external foreign reserves, it will also provide an avenue for the government to save more money so as provide more overhead infrastructural development even after retrieving the cost benchmark of oil. Rationally, in more serious climes where accountability of government is the hallmark of service, such good economic fortunes would not only transform the state of a nation, but it will also set the template for a better living standard of her citizen. This Nigerians didn't see as her citizenry even suffered the more as if nothing was happening at the level of all levels, all sectors of the economy was barely working as ministries even had difficulties in fulfilling their statutory functions. Despite this avalanche of resources, Industries were barely working as none was even created for diversification.

The irony of it all was that government officials whose duty and responsibility was to ensure due diligence in governance turned out to becoming the worst thieves who looted blind the nations treaury without recourse to commonsense and logic. The Government who had a responsibility to save for the rainy days became unaware of of the pains and sufferings of many Nigerians as they will prefer to steal rather than serve diligently in true allegiance. We saw an administration where a minister would rather buy bullet proof cars with cocharis motors rather than engage in good governance, we saw an administration whereby millions of innocents and jobless Nigerians was defrauded with an NIS (Nigeria Immigration Service) job employment, we saw an administration where ministers now compete for the best first class airline travelers, making Dubai, UK, US, Paris a resting zone when they so desire while an average Nigeria could barely use the local roads available. We saw an administration where a few persons held the petroleum industry not only to a standstill but sat, dine and wine with her resources as if they where having dinner and breakfast yet very many Nigerians could barely feed with the required standard of having three square meal daily with the proper combination in the right proportions despite our glowing economy fortune with oil as at that time. Truth be told, Nigerians saw corruption like never before right at the heart governance as the executive, legislature and judiciary romanced themselves with the wealth of tax payers money.

Subsequently, when the argument was raised by the administration to remove subsidy from PMS, in as much as the timing was absolutely wrong as per Jan 1, 2012 when many Nigerians had barely returned from their various hub where they did go celebrate the yuletide, so many Nigerians couldn't trust the administration with the reasons they so claimed was the brain behind such move. SAVE COST INDEED. Though, a very sound economy policy( even though we had the wherewithal to sustaining such cost going by our booming crude oil pricing at the oil market globally) but Nigerians couldn't trust a government who barely could save with our rising oil prices talk more of saving with the removal of subsidy from PMS. Sure, there is no gain saying that with the enormous money been pumped into subsidizing a sector fraught with fraud, the government could very well use such allocation in creating a better enabling environment geared towards a stronger economy growth but alas, it was impossible for Nigerians to trust such a corrupt administration where accountability at best is given little or no chance to strive.

The facts was damning enough going by her precedence of wanton abuse of public offices as impunity prevaricates the corridors of powers so recklessly under the watchful eyes of a BOSS who should have acted yet did nothing, worst still became absolutely clueless which made corrupt malpractices to strive unabated. Therefore, the masses couldn't help but OCCUPYNIGERIA when the move was made to remove subsidy from PMS. The logic was clear which a clueless administration was blinded to - why remove fuel subsidy when we have an administration that could barely control herself to stealing, why make subsidy removal a topmost priority when Nigerians can see first hand how our booming oil money was been spent, looted and misappropriated so flagrantly, why remove subsidy when Nigerians can't even give you their trust that the money saved will be used judiciously to revamp some other sectors and indeed improve their lots when obviously, we could barely feed even with an increasing crude oil benchmark, over bloated external foreign reserves which stood at over $35billion as at Jan 2012 and $30billion as at may 2015. Truth be told, that the administration was corrupt became an understatement hence there was no pain agreeing with the word "FANTASTICALLY CORRUPT".

Nigeria economic analysis between  2011-2015 was glaring enough for all to see that it will only amount to sheer hypocrisy and sentimental ignorance if anyone tries to do a comparison which by rationality makes no sense going by the kind of economic pillage we so find ourselves due to the excessive government rascality, irresponsibility and wanton corruption that greeted such administration.

Honesty is bedrock of true governance, and despite the seemingly looming economic obscurity we so find ourselves and the inherent removal of subsidy from PMS, the vast majority of Nigerians (though may suffer for the short term) are so convinced that not one percent of their money will be looted, misappropriated or spent on frivolity given the kind of leader we so have whose record on integrity, truth and sincerity knows no bounds. Though, no man is fantastically perfect, Mr president may be in a very tight corner as it seems now due to the inefficiencies of the past, but then, it will be the greatest of all injustices to now use his shortcomings as a spiritual cleansing agents in making the former president a saint. It is important not to sell our memories just for a liter of petrol which now stand at N145 due to certain economic measures as the situation could have been much more easier if governance in the past had made the difference when the land was seemingly GREEN.
