US swimmers robbery story false

Following the story that ensued August 14 about the robbery of three US athletes at gun points in the city of Rio, there have been series of investigations by the Brazilian authorities in seeing that the culprits were brought to justice amid tight security intelligence that followed the build up to the Rio Games. Subsequently, in a followup to the story, that the three US athletes were robbed off their money and other valuables, the Brazilian authorities have discovered that such claims as earlier reflected in the media, never happened stressing that the information gathered suggested that the US Swimmer Olympian Ryan Lochte alongside his teammates were actually been stopped by policemen after they discovered on of the athletes were involved in an act of Vandalism.

According to the story, the athletes who were returning from a club in Rio, stopped by a gas station to use the restroom., where one of the said athletes committed an an act of Vandalism. An argument however ensued between the athletes and two armed gas station security staffs who then ordered them to come out from their vehicles, subsequently brandishing a gun at them, while requesting for monetary payment for the damaged properties. Soon after the money exchanged hands, the athletes were left to go.

Though the story seems to have a divergent reporting line, but what seems the same between the US side of the story and that of the authorities in Rio is that of a gun been brandish at this athletes.

At the wake of this recent development, the US government through her Olympic Committee, signed by her CEO Scot Blackmum, has tendered an unreserved apology to the Brazilian authorities, citing reasons that the behavior displayed by the athletes do not show a true reflection of what Team USA stands for.

"The behavior of these athletes is unacceptable, nor does it reflects the value of Team USA or the vast majority of its members. We will further review the matter, and any potential consequences for the athletes when we return to the United States"

"On behalf of the United States Olympic Committees, we apologize to our host and the people of Rio for this distracting ordeal in the midst of what should rightly be a celebration of excellence"
