HID Goes Home in splendour

Though another sad tale to tell in the yoruba enclave and indeed a monumental loss to the nation but yet again, on a second thought, it is a celebration of life, a life full of accomplishments and success story, a life of humility and social candour. Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu who passed on Saturday 19th September at the Holy age of 99 in her home town Ikenne-Remo, Ogun.
HID has she was fondly called was not only a wife to the late sage and multi-faceted politician Pa Obafemi Awolowo whom he always refer to as' The Jewel of inestimable value' but also a a source of support not only to the yoruba race but also serves as a fountain of knowledge to all those who frequent her for advice and opinion.

Prior to her death, She was also a successful business woman to the core  as she was the first Nigeria distributor to the Nigerian Tobacco Company(NTC) in 1957.
An astute politician who played an active role in the politics of Western Nigeria. She stood in for her husband in the alliance formed between the NCNC and the AG, called the United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA), while he was tried and in jail.
Mrs Hannah Awolowo though strong and very resilient has got her own share of pain and gain during her earthly sojourn as she was reported to have cried out in emotions nd anguish on hearing the news of the daeth of one of her son 'Oluwole' who died in a London hospital sometime ago, she cried out so passionately saying, “’Oh Wole, my dear son! Why now! Is it a sin to live long? My parents lived long, why should longevity become a curse in my own case?” The matriarch who then turned to one of the visiting clergymen continued: “Bishop, you said I would not witness any more unfortunate incident. Bishop, you said I would not witness any sorrow again. Bishop, you said I would not witness any more pain.” hmmI! Death! You remain a treacherous villian to mankind.
Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo passed on just barely two months away to her centenarian birthday.
ADIEU MAMA, SLEEP ON as your works and good virtue will forever remain a source of solace in the hearts and mind of all whom your repository knowledge has helped in one way or the other.
