CHAN eagles crashes out of tournament as oliseh tenders his apologies

Following their dismal performance at the ongoing African cup of nations tournament CHAN 2016 hosted by Rwanda, the super eagles team and technical crew led by coach sunday oliseh yesterday crashed out of the group stages of the competition following a miserable 1-0 loss to point hungry Guineans who went all out yesterday to seeing that the super eagles team was at the receiving end come 90minutes of play.

The eagles who was held by a ruthless Tunisia side to a one all draw at their opening encounter in the tournament, subsequently thrashed fellow groupies Niger 4-1 with the name Chisom Chikatara ringing a bell of red signal to all those who cared to listen.

However, with four point already in the kitty for the sunday oliseh led eagles, they sure needed just a draw out from the Guineans to see through to the quarter finals stages of the competition but alas, little did they envisage that the Guineans national team had a piece of shocker cake prepared for them as they were eventually surprised in a last minutes decider match where the eagles crumbled like a pack of cards begging for survival yet got none as the very focused Guinean team ran home with the much needed three points to advance swiftly to the Quarter final round alongside gallant Tunisia who also dealt angrily with football "minnows" Niger.

Well, with the deed done already and the spoil t milk been spilled all over, the coach of the team who obviously has been prided in some quarters as the Pep Guardiola of Nigeria couldn't had his emotions of disappointment, as he expresses his sadness over the quick exit of the National team at the competition even though he acknowledged his boys to have given their all.

“We apologise to Nigerians for this loss, we never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best,” said a sober Oliseh after the game.

Hmm! indeed! I so guess that was their all as they really proved it with a mediocre pattern of play thinking the Guineans will be as naughty and complacent as they are in that game. Best indeed.

Similar;ly, just as if this whole idea of mediocrity is the current new sermon for solace, the Nigeria  football federation NFF, has indeed aired their opinion on their dismal outing even if they never considered it to be.

Well, according to the head of the NFF, Amaju Melvin Pinnick,  he assessed the championship as merely a preparatory competition for the bigger AFCON games in 2017.

In his words “For me, it is disappointing that we did not progress. But the NFF will now focus on the 2017 AFCON qualifiers, and start preparations early for the remaining rounds,” Pinnick said. Hmm! am not surprised one bit.

However, he continued thus as if he was looking to solace himself  “I want us to take the positives from this tournament. A player like Chisom Chikatara broke onto the global platform and players like Usman Mohammed,  Chima Akas, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Austin Oboroakpo and Ifeanyi Mathew confirmed their class".   Class indeed without showing it when it matters the most, i ended.

Though, the NFF boss recognizes the pain of adherent Nigerian fans who had given up their time for these boys just to get a shocker disappointment when he announced his apologies for all those bittered by the results as he landed a soft note “We apologise to Nigerians for the poor outing of the Super Eagles in Rwanda, but we toe the line of CAF which states that CHAN is a developmental and preparatory competition. Of course, as Nigerians, we love to win always, and we feel bad when we don’t".
