Fresh fears as Customs boss demands reviews of credentials and letter of Employments among senior officers
The Nigeria Customs Service seems to be engulf in fresh worries as the Comptoller General of Nigeria Customs Mr Hameed Ali sought to embark on a total review of all those whose promotions weren't merit based. According to the CG of customs the move became imminent as the commission begins some internal reformation among self.
However, the commission in carrying out this new directive has ordered all affected officers to submitting their letters of first appointment and onward credentials as at the time employment on or before 10days from the give date of notice.
According to the commission the credentials and all details of employment should be forwarded to the deputy comptroller General human resource development department for verification.
It will be recall that CG of customs in a recent maiden visit to Lagos commands noted that promotions of officers will be strictly based on merit while noting an imminent review of all those appointments and promotions within the commission got effected with not too credible qualifications or below standard.
The circular dated April 15 2016 was directed to all deputy comptroller General, Assistant comptroller General, Zonal Coordinators, Area controllers, Federal operations units, comptrollers, Marine commands and commandants, customs training college, Kano and Lagos and all heads customs units.
Titled: circular number HRD/2016/19 APPOINTMENT AND CERTIFICATE VERIFICATION EXERCISE OF DEPUTY COMPTROLLERS AND ASSISTANT COMPTROLLERS, the circular stated:
“I am directed to request you to inform all Deputy Comptrollers and Assistant Comptrollers working in your department, zones, units and commands to present the under listed documents to the DCG (HRD) through your various offices – Letter of First Appointment, Qualification certificate (s) at the time of employment and evidence of conversion/upgrading if any.
“You will please ensure that the originals are personally sighted while the officers concerned will append their signatures in your presence on all documents being submitted for onward transmission to headquarters.
“These documents must get to the DCG HRD on or before Monday 25th of April 2016 unfailingly,” the circular stated.
