Nigeria MPs react to the recent herdsmen attacks in Enugu state

Following the unholy incidents that happened yesterday in Enugu state south-east of Nigeria, more reactions has continued to trail in regarding the deaths and wanton loss of human lives that greeted the incident. While some are calling on the federal government of Nigeria to rise up to the occasion, others are calling for the immediate ban of herdsmen activities in the country.

 In a swift reaction to the dreadful attacks on law abiding citizens in Enugu state, the leadership of the National Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction and deep concern over the tragic incident that left over 50persons dead with so many injured.

The leadership of both houses of the National Assembly not only condemn this act of barbarism but also call on the various security team in the country to as a matter of national urgency take immediate action in a bid to curbing this menace and unholy activities been carried out by herdsmen so as to prevent future occurrence.

Sen. Bukola saraki who took to his twitter handle not only lambast the act but also warn for the safeguarding of the nation's unity if such dangers aren't curbed. " it is important that the violence attributed to herdsmen is addressed and curbed to ensure the safety, unity and well being of the country" he wrote.

Meanwhile, Speaker Dogara who spoke through  Oyeama Chukwuka at the opening on the public hearing to the motion on" urgent need to address the incessant clashes among herdsmen, farmers and their host communities in Nigeria and the introduction of micro irrigation (drip irrigation) for Gombi/Hong federal constituency "in Adamawa state and other parts of the country which was held by the house committe on Agricultural Production and services, the speaker reiterated that this will go a long way in guilding the house in the enactment of the appropriate legislation  that will guarantee a peaceful coexistence among communities.

Also, deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu who spoke in plenary session yesterday criticised the attacks on the people of Uzo- Uwani community in the state called for immediate attention of the presidency to take urgent measures before it becomes too late.

Other lawmakers who aired their opinion en joined the need for a greater security surveillance as they condemned the attacks by herdsmen in Enugu state calling such barbaric act "senseless".

The house has since invited the Director- General  of the state Department of state services DSS Daura Lawal for a quick perusal into the said attacks while seeking for ways to curbing this alarming trends.

It will be recalled that herdsmen had on several occasions launched series of attacks in Delta state, killing innocent persons and owners of farmland. The attacks which has led to the disappearance of a particular king in Delta state and his eventual death has left the people in fears for worries of the unknown.
