Democrat DNC chairperson resigns amid convention

Democratic chairperson for the US Democratic National Committee has officially resigned her position following an email leaked controversy that maligned her office as the chairperson of the DNC.  Debbie Wasserman Schultz  who tendered her resignation amidst pressure from fellow democrats stressed the fact that going forward was the best way in further accomplishing party's collective goals. "Going forward, the best way for me to accomplish those goals [which include electing Clinton president] is to step down as Party Chair at the end of this convention," Wasserman Schultz said in the statement.
"As Party Chair, this week I will open and close the Convention and I will address our delegates about the stakes involved in this election not only for Democrats, but for all Americans," she continued.
The Florida congresswoman whose office was scandalized comes amid the release of thousand of leaked emails showing DNC staffers favoring Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in the party's 2016 primary contest. This to a larger extent made Pro-Sanders  supporters staged a protest against the florida congresswoman, caling for her immediate resignation.

Subsequently, in a swift response to this development, Senator Sanders who came out to speak on the development, stated that it was time for Debbie Wasserman to go as she had contributed her quota as chairperson of the DNC.

According to Sanders "Debbie Wasserman Schultz has made the right decision for the future of the Democratic Party," Sanders said."While she deserves thanks for her years of service, the party now needs new leadership that will open the doors of the party and welcome in working people and young people," he added. "The party leadership must also always remain impartial in the presidential nominating process, something which did not occur in the 2016 race."

Similarly, Hillary Clinton had also praised the Florida congresswoman for her role in placing the party above the average bar despite upheavals and looming difficulty. Mrs. Clinton also credited the success of the democratic convention which begins today to the hard work of Ms. Debbie Wasserman. "I am grateful to Debbie for getting the Democratic Party to this year's historic convention in Philadelphia, and I know that this week's events will be a success thanks to her hard work and leadership," Clinton said.

Obama issued a statement, saying, "For the last eight years, Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has had my back. This afternoon, I called her to let her know that I am grateful."

DNC Vice Chair Donna Brazile will serve as interim chair through the election, it was announced Sunday.
The Clinton campaign trail is however accusing the  Russians as behind the leaked documents, as they claim the DNC server was hacked to compromise the Democratic National Convention, and also to favour opposition Republican candidate Donald Trump.
