Haiti in ruins as Hurricane strucks

Updates: Haiti which is unarguably one of world's most impoverished nation is again in ruins as Hurricane Matthew hits this small Caribbean Island in gross devastation. Haiti which isn't new to disaster has suffered terrible earthquake in 2010 followed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. As the world turned once again to this disaster prone country, world leaders are calling for supports and aids in supports to the victims of this dreadful Hurricane which has become the Island's worst since 1964

Marie Alta Jean-Baptiste, the Director of the Civil Protection Directorate (DPC) confirmed that "more than 140 people died in the region of Grand'Anse, bringing the number of victims of the hurricane Matthew to 271 [...]" adding "It's almost 300 and that number will surely increase", there are also 3 missing and 186 injured.

South : 78 dead, 1 missing, 20 wounded

South East : 6 dead, 0 missing, 6 wounded

Total : 271 dead, 3 missing, 186 wounded








Haiti - FLASH : 271 deceased (provisional report) (UPDATE)According to DPC "all temporary shelters are closed in the Southeast. Hosted returned home." However, 61,537 people are still living in 192 temporary shelters in other departments.

At least 178 schools were affected in several departments of the country, some of them are destroyed.
