Charleston shooter sentence to death

Following the ill-fateful day at the black church in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015, the shooter Dylann Roof who killed over eight persons while injuring several others, have been sentenced to death by a US court. The shooter who entered the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in June 2015 during a prayer service session, opened fire on the members as he claimed its victims in what many has described as a "hateful crime".
Chilling moments from Dylann Roof's trial
The trial of Dylann Roof which began shortly after he was taken into custody by the operative in 2015, culminated into her high point on Wednesday January 11, 2016 when a US judge sentenced him to death shortly after his conviction was proclaimed.

In a two-hour judgement delivery sermon, the prosecuting judge who sat as led Judge gave an impassioned statement as he took the ball to all the seated jurors who now awaits the final verdicts. Assistant US Attorney Jay Richardson reminded jurors that Roof sat with the church members for 40 minutes before opening fire. He pulled the trigger "more than 75 times ... reloading seven times" as he stood over his victims, shooting them repeatedly.

While offering a double option of either a death sentence or a life imprisonment, the 10 women and two men sited jurors delivered a unanimous vote for a death penalty.

According to some experts, Dylann who has just 14days to file an appeal counting from the date of the sentence, could also file for a new trial as the case maybe. The later would come at the disposition of the sentenced victim who may file for a new trial on the basis of not having any attorneys helping him in the penalty phase.

"He didn't have any attorneys helping him in the penalty phase so he may make that motion after reflecting on it," Gossett told CNN affiliate WSPA-TV. "Then it would go through the process of automatic hearings with appellate courts to see if there's any reason under the law that it should not stand legal grounds."

Similarly, Dylann who really wasn't the only image at the proceedings, also had in attendance some of the victims family who waited patiently for the conviction to be pronounced without due delay. While some waited with eager anticipation, some couldn't hide their emotions as they rain hard words on the convicted victim who now stand docked with his gaze pointing directly to the floor of the court room.

Gayle Jackson, the niece of Susie Jackson, one of the victim mutter thus;"My mother can't even step a foot into church," she said. "And for you to sit here every day -- I was here from the beginning to the end -- and never, ever apologize ... was hurtful. I pray that your soul go to hell."

However, in a magnanimous statement, The Rev. Dan Simmons' son, Dan Simmons Jr whose father was also among the dead victim as a result of Dylann shootout, voiced out a more emotional cum spiritual synopsis, as he watched Dylann Roof with some word of faith and forgiving heart. "I understand why you don't want to look at us, so I will speak to the spirit that possesses you." he said.

"look at the love this nation, this holy city has poured out. You don't have to look at me. But I see that spirit. I want you to think about that as I forgive for your act, for your actions. ... Know you have an opportunity to ask for forgiveness. Know that God will forgive you. ... If you choose to serve him, you will have a better life. I hear you breathing all the way over here. Speak to that spirit that's inside you." he added.

The Rev. also went ahead to announce that if Dylann Roof's intents was to spark up hate and dislike, then he must have achieved the very opposite of his actions given the love and support the church has received shortly after the incident since 2015.

Well, the Magnanimous words of Rev. Dan Simmons was however short-lived when another image spatted thus inside the court room; "You, young man, are among the worst kind of evil,"One day before your final earthly judgment, it's going to come to you, and you are going to realize you did not have to do this. And it's going to hit you hard." Shirrene Goss, the sister of Tywanza Sanders, one of her victim.
