Ondo state prepares for LGA polls

The ondo state independent electoral commission (ODIEC) will on Saturday April 23, 2016 conduct  the states local government election into the various 18 local  council areas. The election which will see over 5000 ad-hoc staff of the commission in participation will also witness a large amount of security turn ups in ensuring a free, fair and credible system during and after the exercise.

This was made known in a meeting during a security meeting between the state commissioner of police Mr Hilda Harrison and the state chairman of the ondo state independent electoral commission Prof. Olugbenga Ige amongst several stakeholders in the state held at the state capital in Akure.

Also in attendance was Mr. Akin Akinbobola (SSA to the governor olusegun mimiko) standing in for the Governor in proxy.

Prof. Ige reiterated that the election exercise will not be an avenue for thuggery and violence, as she believe that the people ondo state will conduct themselves in a civil like manner while exercising their franchise. She also stated the deployment of over 6000 policemen to the state in an attempt to ensuring a huge successful voting process among voters.

On his part, the state commissioner of police also stressed that the police will be collaborating with other security outfits to ensuring that the activities of hooligans are curtailed swiftly.

Prof. Ige who also stressed the various spread of the ad-hoc staff to including positions such as presiding officers, supervisory presiding officers, ward collation and local government returning officers.

The state will witnessed certain restriction of vehicular movement during the electoral process as this are just measures to ensuring a hitch free process devoid of violence and ill fighting.
