The Nigeria Medical Association Mourns officers, as the NOC releases names of the deceased

The Nigeria Medical Association yesterday lost seven of her members to the cold hands of death as they embarked on a road trip in a bid to attending the 56th Annual Conference and General Delegates Meetings of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, in Sokoto northern part of Nigeria.

The very fatal accident which occurred along the Abuja- Kaduna expressway not only claimed the lives of six senior medical officers en route ekiti for Sokoto also left the driver of the bus dead while seven others are left in a very critical state - Channels News

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Kaduna state chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association NMA Dr. Muhammed Ibrahim reveals that the 18 seater bus in which they were traveling with had one of its tyres busted along the Doka area expressway which resulted in the somersaulting of the vehicles several times.

Reacting to the sad incidence, the Minister of Health Prof. Issac Adewole has expressed total sadness in this unfortunate incidence. Mr Adewole who describe the death of this doctors as a great loss not only to the entire Medical Profession described the incidents as an absolute distaste to the NMA as a whole.

According to the Minister in a statement issued on Monday by her media director public relations Boade Akniola, Prof. Adewole commiserated with the families of the victims and prayed for the reposed of their soul as he stressed the need for the for the good Lord to grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. The minister who also assured the families of the survivors noted that the federal government would be in constant touch with the leadership of the NMA in ensuring that they get the best of health care deliveries.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the national officers committee NOC of the NMA has released the names of the deceased doctors to include; Dr. Alex Akinyele Secretary NMA Ekiti, federal teaching hospital, Ido Ekiti, Dr. O.J Taiwo, Anatomic Pathologist, Ekiti State university teaching hospital, Dr. Tunde Aladesanmi, General Surgeon, federal teaching hospital, Ido Ekiti.

Others include Dr. Olajide .O of the Ekiti state university teaching hospital (President of the Association of Resident Doctors). Dr. Atolani Adeniyi, Dr. Ogunseye J.B.

According to a statement issued on Monday signed by the president of the NMA, Dr. Kayode Obembe and its secretary General, Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki, the association's NOC  declared a week of mourning in respect to their fallen heroes and has thus directed all medical practitioners to wear a black arm band over a white overall as a sign of solidarity and camaraderie.
