Following the annulment of his election, the independent national electoral commission INEC has issued a certificate of return to Mr. Uche Ogah of the people's democratic party PDP as he was the came second during the party primaries in Abia state prior to the general election in 2015. According to the commission Director of publicity Mr Oluwole Osazi-Uzi, this was coming due to the standing court order which vacated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu from office on account of fake tax returns prior to the party primaries which he won. The court however asked the commission to immediately issue a certificate of return to Mr. Uche Ogah who came second at same primaries.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had his election nullified Monday 27, 2016 after he was found guilty of presenting a fake tax returns during the party primaries. Justice Abang Okon however disqualified his candidacy for that election hence ceded victory to Mr. Uche Ogah.
The Judge however, after the ruling gave mandate to the chief judge of the state to immediately swear-in Mr. Uche Ogah as the substantive Governor of the state. It will be recalled that Mr. Okezie election was earlier annulled by a tribunal ruling before he was subsequently reinstated by the supreme court prior to this current court ruling. Okezie's election was challenged by the candidate of the opposition All Progressive Congress APC but he won at the apex court.
