The Maritime Workers Union Of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Partners With Coronation Life Assurance Limited, A Leading Insurance Company Here In Nigeria, To Flag Off A Comprehensive Inland Waterway Passengers Insurance Welfare Scheme. Coronation Life Assurance Limited happens to be a very reliable insurance company with lots of fantastic welfare packages that gives hope to the people.
The event which took place June 10th, 2025 at the Nembe Waterside Jetty in the city of Port Harcourt, featured breath taking activities. Notable individuals from all walks of life, especially in the Maritime sector were all present. Speaking on behalf of the MD/CEO Coronation Life Assurance Limited, Mr. Adebowale Adesona, who was ably represented by Mr. Uche Okaranwolu, Head, Bancassurrance, Coronation Insurance Plc, explained to guests present what the scheme is all about. He highlighted that "With a small token, you will be given a massive coverage" his exact words. He went further to explain how the company has had several months of discussions and deliberations, trying to come up with what is best for the people.
He further said that with Coronation life assurance policy, boat passengers are guaranteed peace of mind. Stating that each passenger is expected to pay a token of Hundred Naira (#100) only per each trip to be insured. The Idea is to make it affordable, so that it can be easily accessible for all boat passengers. " So with Hundred Naira (#100), you stand a chance to have this cover" he said. He further explained that in case of eventuality, a boat mishap occurs, and there is a loss of life, the beneficiary of the victim will enjoy Five Hundred Thousand Naira (#500,000) as death benefit. " Then if there is a permanent disability, due to any boat accident, the victim also gets Five Hundred Thousand Naira (#500,000) as compensation" he said. He also said that medical expenses due to an accident on the waterway, attracts a compensation of Fifty Thousand Naira (#50,000). Stating that the policy shows that the Maritime groups and government agencies care about the welfare of boat travelers.
He went further to appreciate the Maritime Workers Union, for taking the bold initiative to partner with Coronation Life Assurance in providing a suitable and reliable welfare scheme for boat passengers.
The manifest booklets were also displayed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the scheme. Passengers were advised to always endeavor to provide their correct names and other valid information while filling the manifest booklet. This according to Mr. Uche Okaranwolu, is to enable them enjoy the benefits of the welfare scheme. He further assured everyone of the sustainability of the scheme, as Coronation will continue to improve on their services to meet up with modern realities
Key speakers of the day were ; The Representatives from The Nigerian Navy, The Marine Police, MULTIJANC Concepts And Other Critical Stakeholders In The Maritime Industry And Transport Industry. Other dignitaries present who also spoke, applauded the initiative, and at the same time encouraged boat passengers to key into the welfare scheme.
